Gold Medal – 2016 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards
2015 may prove to be the Yarra Valley’s greatest Shiraz vintage to date.
Near perfect conditions in 2015 with a cool January and warm spells in February and March allowed for gradual maturation, great acid retention, and solid crop with even ripeness. Phenolic maturity (brown seeds/stems) was spot on, and we took the opportunity to experiment with skin contact with whites and more whole bunch use in reds.
This is the big brother to our Trevor Mast trophy winning Shiraz (Royal Melbourne Wine Awards). 20% whole bunch, 3% Viognier in the ferment, with the balance of intensity and fragrance we come to expect from blue-chip Australian Shiraz. Just 128 dozen produced.
