Vintage; A magnificent vintage for Chardonnay, this is showing all the hallmarks of a great vintage; length, persistence and finesse whilst remaining elegant.
The wine is purely off the old blocks of the Napoleone vineyard, planted between 1987 and 2001 using the I10V1 clone. So much flavour this year, a top tier Yarra Valley chardonnay vintage. Fruit harvested from Napoleone Blocks 2 and 11A both of which have grey loam on clay base and are South-East facing. The fruit was crushed to the press to maximise flavour and solids. Rough racked to puncheons (20% new) for natural ferment with all the solids. 40% of the wine went through malolactic fermentation. Lees stirred monthly. Bottled in November 2018.
“Notes of lime curd and stonefruit. On the palate, nougat, pineapple and ripe peach combine to make an elegant harmonious wine.”
Tim Shand, Winemaker
